Bill Gates recently shared his thoughts on how artificial intelligence will reshape the future of work. While many people worry that AI will take over jobs, Gates believes one profession will remain safe: programming.

Gates acknowledged in an interview with France Inter that he is likewise uncertain about the potential power of AI.  “I’m scared too,” he said.  He is adamant that writing code and developing software will always require a human touch, notwithstanding these worries. 

According to Gates, programming calls for imagination, logic, and creativity skills that AI can supplement but cannot completely replace.  According to the World Economic Forum, by 2030, AI might eliminate 85 million jobs while simultaneously creating about 97 million new ones. 

Gates views this change as a chance.  People may be able to spend more time performing meaningful work rather than just working to make ends meet if AI takes care of monotonous or repetitive activities.

According to Gates, AI shouldn’t be seen as a danger to our professions but rather as a tool that increases productivity. Instead of being afraid of AI, he urges humans to continue being curious, learn about it, and use it to improve their abilities.

Gates concludes by reminding us of a crucial point: while AI is capable of producing code, only humans are able to envision what ought to be constructed.
